Another Wreck

So, this weekend, a friend of mine invited me to come along and visit a wreck.  It is one which I have attempted to visit in the past, but my lack of a 4X4 kept me from it.  He has a 4X4 and has been to it before, so I expect that we will have a better chance.  The P-38 in question was one of those that experienced compressability, something the P-38 is famous for (when it was in a dive it approached the sound barrier and its controls lost the ability to change the craft's attitude and therefore the craft just kept going until it broke apart or hit the ground), and broke apart shortly after the pilot jumped out.  It is spread between two valleys and should be an interesting day.

Yesterday, was my second day back to one of the local schools.  I was met with more love and affection than I expected!  It was nice!  My fifth grade class was awesome, too.  The staff was a pleasure to see, and it was just a good day.

A friend of mine was in a severe accident this last weekend.  He is in Harbor View Hospital on the West side.  It sounds like he is going to be ok, despite many broken ribs, a punctured lung, and an arm broken in two places.  The guy just can't catch a break.  This spring he broke his foot/ankle when a horse stepped on him.

We cleaned all weekend and I worked on it further on Monday.  The house is looking good.  I also added some baby proofing to the cabinets.  I soon disabled some of the baby proofing because, let's face it, it's annoying not being able to open things when you want.  And, it may be a couple months before the bay gets here.  I guess I jumped the gun.

Music for me for the rest of the week, the usual!

Celebrate!

Cora and I drove up to E-burg late Tuesday night to meet some people from Illinois that we have met through the adoption blog-o-sphere.  Yeah, I know, weird, but not the first!  Remember this?

Well, these people have their own travel blog, and it is totally worth a look!

I think you get that much energy after being couped up in a motorhome with your family for several weeks.
before they left on their voyage, we sent them some coloring books to while away the time.  I inserted this, thinking they'd appreciate it, but never dreaming they would color, laminate and post it in their window!  How cool is that?

Anyway, we had a great visit and made a great friendship even stronger.  Thanks Diana and Eric for coming to meet us!

and another picture from my lovely new camera.  I am learning my way around it pretty fast.  I am going to master double exposures soon and then i will let you see my work...but, I need more time!!!

Which Phase?

Last night we went over to a friend's house and had dinner and played cards.  They want me to paint a painting to go in their living room.  They just put in an addition to their home and it looks beautiful!  I only hope I can come up with a painting they aren't embarrassed to hang.

It was lots of fun.  We took a coloring book for their daughter.  And as we talked, I would glance around to find this young lady busily coloring her coloring book.  I don't know what made me happiest; that she started by coloring the front cover or that she took so much care in her wonderful color choices!  She was bent over that coloring book studiously and carefully tinting each area longer than I expected!  That is how I hope all those who get one of our coloring books enjoys them!

We played Phase 10.  It's a deviously designed card game.  I imagine it will take a dozen more times before I am nearly as cut throat and demented in my card play as our delightful hostess...who won quite handily.  I WAS in second place, but, really, who goes around bragging, "I got beat!  But I was in SECOND place!"  Of course, I have as much fun being beat as I do winning.

I don't know why we don't visit more with friends, we always have such a good time.  I guess it is just easier to sit around watching TV...but it isn't nearly as much fun.  I guess we should clean house and just have some company!

Knight Rider

Knight Rider! I love a fast car...

Is it wrong that, after more than 20 years, I have a manic thrill coursing through me as I am watching the first episode of Kinght Rider. Yes, complete with David Hasselhoff. I remember this from when it first came on. I was in second or third grade. It has REALLY beena long time since I watched Knight Rider. My best friend was a fanatic. He wanted, more than anything else, to get the light in the grill that went back and forth on KITT. He wanted to install one on his 1976 Pacer. He thought that would be the most awesome thing ever. I always thought he was a little bit off.

Watching this show brings alot of memories of him and my early childhood flooding back. I am also aware that I have had a glass or two of wine. Still, memories are sometimes difficult to control. As some of you know, my dearest friend Jim passed 11 years ago. So, while this is recorded in a post that will sound somewhat dumb later, I now raise my glass to the memory of my best friend. James Damon Coder! May we all have a smart car someday! Here's to you Jim! I miss you.

Today, I made a few false attempts at painting new decorations for our walls. What do you think? Cora thinks the long one is a Tim Burtonesque tribute to the remnants of a forest fire.

I don't think she likes it very much. The other two suffer from trees that have the wrong hue of green...well, I will give them another shot in the morning.

Here is what they used to look like:

We also looked at fish today, but the one we wanted looked sick. Well, I will give the paintings another shot in the morning.

I picked up a book from my youth the other night. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I have a leather bound edition. I began reading where I had left the ribbon. It described flight.

The Hitchhiker's Guide has this to say on the subject of flying:

"There is an art...or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss..." This is good stuff, you might want to write it down. "Pick a nice day...and try it." All right, I am a big fan of Douglas Adams. "The first part is easy. All it requires is simply the ability to throw yourself forward with all your weight, and the willingness not to mind that it's going to hurt. that is, it's going to hurt if you fail to miss the ground." Sounds easy enough. "Most people fail to miss the ground, and if they are really trying properly, the likelihood is that they will fail to miss it fairly hard." Douglas Adams was a genius of the written word. I am truly jealous.
