On my way to my last day of subbing I was a little early. I decided to keep my eyes open for something to shoot with my camera. I was rewarded. One of the canals is slow and wide on my way to work. I don't go to that school every day, so I watch for the water to be smooth, the skies to be clear and the mountain (Mt. Adams in this instance) to be visible, and so on. It doesn't happen often when I am in that particular place...maybe 4 times in the past couple years. Thursday was my day.
It's nearly cherry season here. I drove a different route and past several orchards and a winery or two. Finally, I got out and walked into some farmer's orchard...probably trespassing. On the plus side, I got the shot.
Closer to work, I drove past a fruit stand. This particular one is worked by a family. The senior worker looked like he needed his picture taken from afar. So, I did.
Finally, much closer to my destination I found some tribal workers burning the dead weeds in a field. Well, I don't know about you, but I've always thought that smoke and fire lend a special something to a photo. So I stopped. I pulled over and drove slowly until I got the shot I wanted.
I went on to have a pretty good day subbing for a fifth grade teacher. It was a particularly interesting day. One in which I wished I'd brought some sunscreen. On the bright side we got to see a Pow-Wow. A series of Native American dances, some of which required quite a lot of skill. It was scheduled to go only about an hour, however, it went over. One teacher explained that sometimes it got to a point where the performers had to be asked to stop. Apparently, they simply enjoy a chance to dance. At they end the school gave gifts to the tribal elders, one of which was a monetary gift. An interesting cultural experience.
Friday, we took Chloe in and got her tube placed. She came out of anesthetic with no issues. No crying, just alert. She impressed the heck out of the nurses. Especially after she made the connection that there were two different nurses named Jen. She is a wholly remarkable girl.
The rest of the day was spent taking it easy. At least for her. I mowed the lawn, and did some work around the house. Chloe and Cora did some work in the house. And by yesterday afternoon, the house was in excellent shape. So good, in fact, we invited my parents over to watch Chloe while we went to a movie. We went to Star Trek, Into Darkness.
Oh my goodness! I highly recommend this movie! It is awesome!! We were both on the edge of our seat at times. Not simply because the seat was uncomfortable, either...and it was. We went to the grocery store after word and then home. It was nice to spend some time with my other favorite person.
